Getting started

Three steps to your first appointment

1

Referral

For psychiatry, ask your GP for a referral to March Ahead. For psychology, a GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan gives you access to Medicare rebates, or you can self-refer as a private client.

2

Assessment

Meet your clinician by secure video or at our East Brisbane clinic for a thorough first assessment and a plan built with you.

3

Ongoing care

Follow-up appointments, medication reviews and therapy, with your treating clinicians and your GP kept in the loop.

Our approach

Coordinated care, not separate appointments

Many people see a GP, a psychiatrist and a psychologist who never speak to each other. Here, your treating clinicians talk directly, so medication, therapy and follow-up work as one plan.

  • Consultant psychiatrists (FRANZCP)
  • Ahpra-registered psychologists
  • Care guided by RANZCP and APS guidelines
  • Letters back to your GP
  • Telehealth Australia-wide
  • In person in East Brisbane
Fees and funding

Clear fees, confirmed before you book

We are a private practice. Our intake team confirms your fee and any Medicare rebate before your appointment is booked, so there are no surprises.

Medicare

Rebates may apply for psychiatry with a GP referral, and for psychology under Better Access with a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP.

Private

Self-funded appointments, with or without a Medicare rebate. Your fee is confirmed before you book.

Paid by someone else

Some assessments and reports are paid for by an insurer, an employer or a lawyer. We confirm who pays, and how much, before anything is booked.

What is General Mental Health?
General Mental Health is March Ahead's psychiatry and psychology service for adults across Australia. It runs alongside our Veteran Mental Health service, with the same clinical team and standards, by secure Telehealth Australia-wide and in person at our East Brisbane clinic. It is privately billed, with Medicare rebates where eligible.
Do I need a referral?
To see a psychiatrist you need a referral from your GP, which also lets you claim a Medicare rebate if you are eligible. For psychology, a GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan gives access to Medicare rebates under Better Access, or you can self-refer as a private client. If an insurer or employer has asked for an assessment, they will tell you how to book.
What does it cost?
We are a private practice. Fees depend on the service and appointment length, and our intake team confirms the fee and any Medicare rebate or third-party funding before your appointment is booked. Medico-legal reports are billed to the instructing party.
Can I see both a psychiatrist and a psychologist here?
Yes. Your treating clinicians work as one team and communicate directly, so medication and therapy are planned together and your GP is kept informed.
How does Telehealth work?
Appointments are by secure video. You receive a link before your appointment and need a device with a camera, microphone and a reliable internet connection. Nothing needs to be installed. In-person appointments are available at our East Brisbane clinic.
How soon can I be seen?
It depends on the service and the clinician. Contact our intake team for current availability.
I'm a veteran. Is this the right service for me?
Veterans and current or former ADF members usually have DVA-funded options, which are run through our veteran services. Start with our veteran pages, or call us and we will help you choose the right pathway.

Ready to take the next step?

Telehealth Australia-wide, or in person in East Brisbane. We confirm your referral, fees and any rebate with you before anything is booked.
